The Quality Assurance Manager - Co-Manufacturer Quality will partner with Division, Global Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain, Research and Development, and Innovation business teams to assess and qualify potential new co-manufacturers, product development companies, suppliers, and third party packaging partners in support of Campbell Soup Company base business and Innovation initiatives. This individual will be required to develop close working relationships with key supplier and co-manufacturer technical staffs to provide competitive value added Supply Chain quality support. This individual will be involved in new product and process start-up activities, and will provide problem solving and troubleshooting support as required for project initiatives. The Quality Assurance Manager - Co-Manufacturer Quality promotes the entire range of Campbell’s Supplier & Co-man Quality programs, as defined in the Worldwide Quality Standards, Global, and Business Quality Policies for Suppliers, Contract Manufactured product, packaging, and ingredients. The Manager will represent Operations/Quality as an active member of product innovation teams and will participate in vendor assessment and approval, including directing the flow of corporate quality policy to outside vendors and co-manufacturers. The Quality Assurance Manager - Co-Manufacturer Quality will audit CSC ingredient suppliers and co-manufacturer operations against Campbell Global Food Safety and Quality Policies while identifying deficiencies and requesting follow-up on corrective actions where applicable. This individual will drive resolution of vendor non-conformance and will influence supply base quality best practice utilization. This position has the primary focus of external vendors / co-man, warehouse approval and audit management.

Principle Accountabilities

Assess, investigate, and manage supplier, co-manufacturer and external locations quality issues, and request and follow-up on applicable corrective actions, working with outside vendors, co-manufacturers, and CSC teams. Actively participate as a key member of the Quality integration team for acquisitions. Perform co-manufacturer, external product development company, and supplier initial assessments and full quality system audits, and make fact based recommendations for approval or rejection. Full understanding and implementation of Regulatory requirements related to state, federal, FDA, USDA, Kosher, Organic, GMOs, International regulations, etc. Lead or manage corrective actions for Campbell's supplier or co-manufacturer quality related issues and non-conformance, or food safety / quality system deficiencies. Participate in new product or process ingredient and or co-manufacturer start-ups, with a mindset towards troubleshooting and problem solving. Develop value added working relationships with key suppliers and co-manufacturers. Manage and administer Supply Quality system databases as the primary Campbell interface with key co-manufacturers and suppliers (Company applicable databases, Tumbleweed, Riser, GSQA, etc.). Assemble team of internal experts from appropriate functional groups to solve food safety and/or quality problems or deficiencies. Approve, conditionally approve, or reject potential ingredients, new product or process co-manufacturers, suppliers and external locations based on thorough assessments of quality and food safety systems against Campbell policies and effectively communicate decisions to internal and external parties. Clearly and effectively interpret and communicate Campbell quality policy and procedures to internal Innovation business associates, and to external co-manufacturers and suppliers. Act as Project Lead for implementation of new Supply Quality / Co-man software systems. Direct Campbell's internal and third party vendor and co-manufacturer quality audit program and budget. Partner with the Global Quality Excellence team to develop a holistic approach to vendor and co-manufacturing quality systems.

Job Complexity

  • Direct the assessment, investigation, and management of Suppliers & Co-manufacturer quality issues, and effectively communicate impacts to affected company businesses.
  • Pull together a team of internal experts from the appropriate functional groups to solve food safety or quality problems or deficiencies at vendor or co-manufacturer sites.
  • Direct the approval process of new product or process co-manufacturers based on thorough assessments of quality and food safety systems against Campbell policies, and effectively communicate decisions to internal and external parties.
  • Clearly and effectively interpret and communicate Campbell quality policy, procedures, and requirements to internal business associates, and to external warehouses, co-manufacturers and suppliers. 
  • Partner with business teams to drive innovation and meet product to market timelines, while protecting brand equity and assuring food safety and quality for Campbell customers and consumers.
  • Responsible for all documentation of External audits, programs and corrective action
  • Direct activities of internal and third party audit teams and contractors to assure audit quality and annual audit target attainment as well as budget. 
  • Working Conditions

    Travel to Campbell locations, vendor and co-manufacturer manufacturing facilities, and third party packaging partner locations, approximately 50 - 75%.

    Must be able to occasionally withstand typical food manufacturing plant environment of warm, noisy, wet conditions. Some international travel.
