Autism Life Skills Coach – Key Human Services Established in 1989, Key Human Services, Inc. is a subsidiary of Keystone Human Services and expands on Keystone’s vision of community-based support programs to the State of Connecticut. Key Human Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Life Skills Coach to help assist an outgoing woman with Autism with her independent living skills. She loves animals, music, and all things beauty (nails, hair, makeup, etc.).   • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Experience in Human Services, Autism specific experience preferred
  • Flexibility in schedule/reliable and dependable, ability to be to work on time
  • Ability to perform job functions in a timely and professional manner
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to create/develop narrative guidelines for each individual’s daily tasks (i.e., social stories)
  • Valid CT drivers license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

  • Ability to handle stress effectively
  • Ability to perform CPR and First aid
  • Ability to become PMT certified
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull without medical and/or lifting restrictions
  • Ability to operate a vehicle
  • Ability to read, write and understand communication and direction


Job Requirements:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform job duties in accordance with agency policy, State regulations, Federal, State and Local laws
  • Provide excellent services consistent with agency culture, mission and values
  • Be familiar with the individuals supported, learn history, actively listen and respond to needs, help them differentiate between helpful and hurtful choices

  • Assist and counsel each individual to develop self-help skills
  • Provide assistance with personal care/hygiene as needed
  • Supervise/perform cooking and housekeeping responsibilities in a manner that will promote the maximum development of the individuals and ensure the cleanliness of the living environment
  • Provide direct training, counseling, teaching and assistance in all areas of daily living including:
    • Money budgeting and management
    • Proper meal preparation
    • Grocery shopping
    • Use of public transportation
    • Managing medical and dental appointments
    • Responding to emergencies
    • Developing friendships/community and family involvement where appropriate
    • Writing and phone skills
    • Personal appearance and hygiene
    • Proper household maintenance
    • Implement educational, vocational and service plans
